Guidelines for Using Materials
- Researchers and county employees are asked to register at the front desk before accessing county files and records.
- County employees are encouraged to photocopy public records of interest rather than removing the entire file from the records center, when their informational needs are met by only one or two documents.
- Only county employees from a file’s office of origin may remove a file from the Records Center. When removing a file from the Records Center, make sure to leave a check out file in its place, providing the name of the user and the approximate date that the file will be returned.
- Photocopies of public records are provided for the general public for a fee. We reserve the right not to photocopy documents that are in a fragile or deteriorating condition.
- Members of the public are requested to converse with others in their party in low voices, and supervise children appropriately.
- To prevent permanent marking of research materials, please use pencils for taking notes. Pencils are provided for this purpose.
- The oils from human skin can be very damaging to documents. Do not run fingers down the pages of county records. White cotton gloves can be provided upon request, free of charge.
- Writing on papers placed on top of research materials is prohibited.
- Do not change the order in which files are found in a records box. If this occurs by accident, please inform the reference staff.
- When you have completed your research, please leave all research materials on the table. Do not re-file any items.
- Smoking, eating, and drinking are prohibited in the Records Center.
- Set cell phone ringers to silent.
- There is no public restroom in the Records Center. Public restrooms are available through the main Social Services entrance at 541 Ledbetter Road.
- Hours of operation are between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For extensive research inquiries, correspondence and/or appointments are recommended.
